Using a most unlikely combination of ingredients, this recipe will produce soft and juicy patties. They are too sloppy to cook on a braai or in a griddle pan, but great if cooked in a normal frying pan, baked in the oven or grilled under the oven grill. This mixture is so versatile you can even make meatballs or meat loaf with it! Enjoy!

Using a most unlikely combination of ingredients, this recipe will produce soft and juicy patties. This mixture is so versatile you can even make meatballs or meat loaf with it! Enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 1 kg Lean beef mince

  • 1 Packet Brown onion soup powder

  • 15 ml Salted butter, melted

  • 90 ml Plain low-fat yoghurt

  • 20 ml Prepared hot English or Dijon mustard

  • 60 ml Finely chopped parsley

  • freshly-milled black pepper, to taste

Directions

  • Place the mince in a bowl and add the rest of the ingredients. Mix lightly but well.
  • Shape the mixture into any size or shape patties that you fancy and pan fry or grill to your liking in the oven.
  • Serves 4 – 6

Chef’s Hint

  • You can add any twist of your own: woody herbs like rosemary or thyme and aromatic herbs like garlic and the sting of chili. If you love the taste of boerewors, this recipe cries out for 15 ml or so of toasted and crushed coriander seeds.
